Every year, we – as the Simbithi Community – set aside the 18th of July to commemorate #MandelaDay. Over the last two years, we have branched out into different sectors of our surrounding communities to make a difference for 67 minutes on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, in honour of the 67 years he gave of his life fighting for human rights.
In 2017, we painted a classroom for the grade sevens at Sizani Combined School, and planted a garden along the entrance driveway of RA Padayachee Primary School. The classroom, and garden, are still in great condition. Last year, we packed 100 care bags to celebrate Madiba’s 100th birthday. The bags were donated to the Umhlali SAPS, who have made use of them during counselling sessions.
This year, we are embarking on a project called Cupcakes for Community.
On the morning of Thursday, 18th July, we will set out 300 golden, freshly baked cupcakes, icing and toppings on the Country Club deck. We would like to invite residents to join our staff, by decorating a few cupcakes: you will then have the option to buy a set of four cupcakes, for R25. These funds will go toward our Community Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.
If you would like to sign up for a slot on the day, please e-mail your name and surname to marketing@simbithi.com. The available slots are: 7am, 8am and 9am.
Even if you are unable to decorate a few cupcakes, please consider popping down to purchase some: this will go a long way to ensuring we continue to impact our neighbouring communities through our CSI arm.
