Building Control Manager

Simbithi Eco Estate Home Owners Association has the following exciting vacancy for a Building Control Manager.

Reporting into the Technical Manager the individual will be responsible for the following:-

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with residents, architects, engineers, local authorities, planners, surveyors, and other building professionals to ensure that the building projects meets the required SEEHOA standards
  • Carries out ad hoc site inspections, writes up reports and keeps records. Provides feedback on deviations from plan
  • Issuing of fines. Provides feedback on Fine Appeals. Liaises with accounts to ensure the internal audit process relating to fines is followed. Complies with the buying process of SEEHOA
  • Examines and comments on plans for new buildings, alterations or extensions utilizing the DRC checklist 
  • Oversees the building programme and ensures the building programme is completed within the stipulated timelines and providing them with supportive management
  • Undertakes regular inspections of building work at various stages of completion. Inspects and carries out audits of buildings deviating from plan as per checklist
  • New Building Products are assessed, and recommendations made to the DRC
  • Issues approval to commence with building work (Site handover) and completion certificates
  • Approves demolition upon instruction by the DRC in the event of deviation from the approved plan
  • Keeps up to date with relevant regulations and legislation
  • Weekly update reports to Line Manager, Community reports – Monthly Newsletter & Simbithi Scene Magazine articles
  • Works closely with Maintenance on matters pertaining to Building Control
  • Responsible for compiling the departmental budget in conjunction with the Finance Department and manages costs within the budget.
  • Chairperson of the Design Review Committee Meeting
  • Required to be on standby as and when required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree / Diploma in Architecture
  • 5 years experience with higher end building architecture and design
  • Valid Drivers’ Licence
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
