We are seeking an ambitious and hardworking Environmental Intern to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in environmental science and sustainability practices.

·       Assist with wildlife monitoring and relation environmental research projects

·       Records environmental activities, talks, mortality records, carrying capacities and citizen science projects

·       Communicates with stakeholders regarding the introduction and relocation of wildlife species

·       Support stakeholders, including wildlife vets, in tracking injured wildlife and participating in bushbuck capture and other wildlife activities.

·       Provide wildlife camera footage to the communications department to share sightings with the community.

·       Record species list and flag areas needing attention the environmental manager

·       Facilitate species population counts, including chameleon transects and sweeps.

·       Conduct programs to raise awareness about various habitats and their functions within the ecosystem

·       Assists in updating environmental policies and standard operating procedures (SOP’s)

·       Supports the environmental manager in maintaining carrying capacities to ensure environmental sustainability.

·       Aids with setting up cat traps and related administrative tasks and with tree permit applications through DAFF for both the estate and residents

·       Conduct per compliance audits

·       Draft reports on sighting of endangered species on Simbithi, such as Pickersgill reed frog, spotted ground thrush and blue duiker.

·       Perform any other ad hoc tasks in relation to the job

 

Minimum Requirements:

·       Matric with Honours degree in Environmental Sciences

·       MS Office proficiency

·       Valid driver’s licence
