The Simbithi Birding Group continues to be a pot of birding gold, with incredible sightings posted regularly. In January, avid birder Brian Roberts captured this image of a Black-throated Wattle-eye hosting a Klaas’s Cuckoo on the Mannies’ Farm Trail. With an expert’s confirmation of the identity of the juvenile Cuckoo, it is the first sighting of this occurrence in Southern Africa.
There are previously no records of this relationship outside of Southern Africa. An exceptional sighting, and record for Simbithi!
