Warren Abery is certainly no stranger to our community, having lived on the Estate with his family for nine years. A South African professional golfer, Warren is a household name in local and international golfing circles and comes highly recommended by his sporting peers.
Warren’s golfing career started at the tender age of 13. He won the South African Amateur Tournament in 1995 and, after representing South Africa at the Eisenhower Trophy in 1996, he turned professional – in 1997. In that year, he joined the Sunshine Tour where he won seven times, between 1998 and 2011. He also earned his European Tour card in 2006, and 2012. In his career, Warren has amassed 77 top 10 finishes.
We are excited to have Warren on the team, and look forward to his influence within, and development of, the Sport department. Warren’s responsibilities will include:
Management and oversight of all sporting activities on the Estate; primarily golf, and including trail runs, walking, cycling, Simbithi Gymnasium, cricket, tennis, darts, bridge and outdoor fitness.
Recruitment and training of Sport Department staff
Oversight of general sporting and golf instruction, clinics, golf schools and golfer development programs for all customer segments
Oversight of golf marketing initiatives
All sporting portfolios will report directly to Warren. These include:
Warren will also seek to grow, and improve the golfing experience at Simbithi Country Club, as outlined at the Annual General Meeting in August: with a view to positioning Simbithi as a destination point at the forefront of the North Coast. We are also excited to grow other sporting codes in line with Simbithi’s strategic plan.
On behalf of the Board, Management, staff and our Simbithi community, a warm welcome to Warren Abery, who will officially join us on 1 October, 2019. All the best as you lead our Sport department.
