Simbithi is a treasure trove for nature lovers. The lush greenery, natural forests and waterways in our exquisite piece of paradise envelopes those who live, and visit, here in a canopy of peace and tranquility.

We are privileged, of course, to share our home with an array of wildlife. Our newly formed Simbithi birding group focuses on the winged residents of our Estate, posting sightings on the birding WhatsApp group and sharing voice notes of the symphonies of varying calls heard on particularly quiet mornings.

On Saturday, 26 February 2022 the group met for their first birding walk. Led by Dael Stojakovic, the group started at the Heron Community Centre and spent the morning exploring our birdlife.

A few of the sightings included the collared sunbird (Hedydipna collaris) and the thick-billed weaver (Amblyospiza albifrons).

If you would like to join the birding group, please e-mail your full name and address to environmental@simbithi.com or ea@simbithi.com.

Details of the next walk will be posted on the group. Please note, numbers are limited to ensure social distancing, so booking is essential.

Thank you to Shirley Sage and Hana Benesova for the photographs.
