VACANCY: Building Inspector / Health & Safety

Simbithi Eco Estate Homeowners’ Association (SEEHOA) has an exciting opportunity for a Building Inspector/ SHE Officer. The successful candidate will ensure that structures have been built in accordance with the Estate’s Design Codes and the approved building plan. The candidate will also be required to maintain health and safety compliance across the Estate.

Building Inspector/ SHE Officer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans to ensure plans meet building codes, local ordinances, zone regulations, and contract specifications,
  • Conducts regular site inspections at each stage of the building process, compiles reports and keeps appropriate records; provides feedback on deviations from plans, and checks the structural quality and general safety of the building,
  • Conducts consent of sale (COS) inspections as required,
  • Monitors construction sites periodically to ensure overall compliance,
  • Uses survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections; and keeps daily logs, including photographs, taken during inspections with written findings,
  • Inspects plumbing, electrical and other systems to ensure they meet the aforementioned code,
  • Provides a service site report to homeowners indicating where services are located prior to construction,
  • Verifies alignment, level, and elevation of structures to ensure the building meets specifications,
  • Consults with Line Manager prior to the issuing of a violation notice and stop-work orders,
  • Assess stormwater compliance on the Estate
  • Undertake home inspections periodically 
  • Develops Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Policies and safe work procedures for each area of the business, and 
  • Conducts risk assessments, audits, and enforces OSH compliance across the Estate.
  • Chairs the H&S committee for SEEHOA & SCC.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 – 7 years of experience
  • Drivers’ Licence
  • Building Inspection Qualification
  • Certificate and/or experience in Health and Safety is advantageous
